Top List of

Hugo Borst

Chair of the Top 1000 Judging Panel

“This is the final list. There’s plenty to argue about. And that’s the fun of it. It’s based on reason and gut feeling – a combination of the number of Eredivisie matches played (Doesburg versus Ronaldo) and anecdotes. I interviewed or spoke to eighty of them. That was also a criterion. The top ten are a bit dull. It only gets interesting after around 25th or 30th place. From number 70 onwards are the unfortunate ones. They died young or suffered other misfortunes. The last ten are a bit odd, and often completely undeserved based on what they were capable of. It’s impossible to make it complete. That’s what the viewers are for. (And even then, we’re not complete.)”
